How to Start the Free Trial

1

Go to canva.com/pricing

Navigate to Canva's pricing page. You will see the Pro plan with a 'Start Free Trial' or 'Try Pro for Free' button.

2

Sign in or create an account

If you have a Canva account, sign in. If not, create a free account with your email, Google, or Facebook. The trial applies to your account.

3

Enter payment information

Add a credit card, debit card, or PayPal. You will not be charged now. Canva requires this to start the trial. The charge only triggers if you do not cancel before Day 31.

4

Set your Day 28 reminder

Immediately after starting your trial, open your calendar and set a reminder for 28 days from today titled 'Cancel Canva Pro trial or keep'. This is the most important step.

5

Begin testing systematically

Use the 30-day testing checklist below to evaluate Pro features against your real workflows. Do not just browse. Actually use the features.

30-Day Testing Checklist

Days 1-7: Set up and test core features

  • Set up Brand Kit: upload your custom fonts, enter brand colors, upload logos
  • Test Background Remover on 5-10 product or portrait photos. Track how many you use.
  • Explore premium templates for your most-used design types (social posts, presentations)
  • Download 10 premium stock photos. Compare quality to your current stock source.
  • Try Magic Write for at least one real copywriting task (social post, email subject lines)

Days 8-14: Test workflow tools

  • Use Magic Resize to convert one design to 5 different platform sizes. Time yourself.
  • Try Magic Eraser to remove an unwanted object from a photo
  • Test Magic Edit to replace part of a photo using a text prompt
  • Set up social scheduling for one week of posts. Evaluate vs your current tool.
  • Try transparent PNG export for a logo or design element

Days 15-21: Evaluate premium content

  • Download 20+ more premium stock photos and evaluate overall quality
  • Use premium animated templates for a presentation or social story
  • Access premium audio tracks for a video project
  • Use SVG export for a logo or icon
  • Evaluate premium illustrations and graphics vs your current sources

Days 22-28: Make your decision

  • Count total Background Removals used x $2 = value generated
  • Count premium stock downloads and compare to your current stock cost
  • Calculate time saved by Magic Resize and Brand Kit at your hourly rate
  • Decide: is the total value more than $120/year (annual) or $15/month?
  • If keeping: switch to annual billing before Day 30 to save $60/year
  • If cancelling: go to Account Settings > Billing > Cancel Plan today

Canva Refund Policy

Annual Plans: 30-Day Money-Back

Annual Canva Pro plans include a 30-day money-back guarantee from the date of first payment (not the trial start date). If you purchase an annual plan and are not satisfied within 30 days of that purchase, you can request a full refund through Canva support.

Monthly Plans: No Refund Guarantee

Monthly Canva Pro plans do not carry a money-back guarantee. You can cancel at any time, but Canva does not provide refunds for the current billing period on monthly plans. Your access continues until the end of the paid period.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I start the Canva Pro free trial?
Go to canva.com/pricing and click the 'Start Free Trial' button on the Pro plan. You will be asked to create an account or sign in, then enter payment information (credit card or PayPal). Your 30-day trial begins immediately. You will not be charged until the trial ends. Canva sends a reminder email before the trial period expires.
Can I cancel Canva Pro without being charged during the trial?
Yes. You can cancel at any time during the 30-day trial without being charged. Go to your Canva account, click your profile picture, select Account Settings, then Billing and Plans, then Cancel Plan. Your account reverts to Free immediately upon cancellation. Set a calendar reminder for Day 28 to give yourself buffer time before the charge date.
What happens to my designs after I cancel?
Your designs remain in your Canva account permanently. However, any design that uses premium elements (premium templates, premium stock photos, premium elements) will show watermarks when you try to download them after downgrading to Free. Designs using only free elements are unaffected. Brand Kit settings become view-only but your custom fonts and colors remain stored.
Does Canva offer a refund on annual subscriptions?
Yes. Canva offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on annual Canva Pro plans. If you purchase an annual plan (not just a trial but an actual purchase) and are not satisfied, you can request a full refund within 30 days of the payment date. Monthly subscriptions do not carry a money-back guarantee but can be cancelled at any time, with access continuing until the end of the billing period.
Can I get a second free trial if I cancelled a previous one?
Generally no. Canva's free trial is available once per account. If you have previously used a Canva Pro trial on your account, you will not be eligible for another trial on the same account. Some users report that creating a new account with a different email address allows access to another trial, but this is not officially supported by Canva.
What should I test during the 30-day Canva Pro trial?
Focus your testing on the features most likely to justify the ongoing cost: use Background Remover on at least 10 product or portrait photos (to gauge how much it would save vs remove.bg); download 20+ premium stock photos to evaluate quality vs your current stock source; set up your Brand Kit with custom fonts and colors; try Magic Resize on a design for 5 different platform sizes; use Magic Write for copy on a real project; and test social media scheduling for 2 weeks to see if it replaces your current scheduling tool.
